Self Guided Tours  This is our most popular way to see the wild Spanish ponies of Corolla.  During the height of our season these tours book up well in advance, so your best bet is to call the Sat, Sun, and Mon of your week or reserve online now.  On this tour you and up to four others leave for 2.5 hours in Jeep Wrangler 4x4s to find the wild horses of Corolla.  Aided by the pre-programmed GPS installed in each vehicle expect to cover around 24 miles of 4x4 backcountry. Your self-Guided tour begins with our owner himself giving a short speech on proper beach driving. This will keep you from getting stuck in the sand!!  Most companies fail to see the importance of this quick lesson. We here at Corolla Jeep Rentals and Tours would rather take a few minutes to educate you than have your tour delayed because you got stuck. You will also be shown how to use the GPS. As soon as you feel comfortable commandeering your Wrangler 4x4, take off on an adventure the family will remember for a lifetime. The GPS routes are updated regularly with all the hot horse spots and other points of interest. The horse population estimated at around 80 or so, live in a pristine four-wheel drive area on the northern most part of Corolla.  Although a sighting of the elusive horses is the climax of the trip for most travellers, plenty of other interesting wildlife can be seen along the way.  For instance, dolphin sightings are reported by customers throughout each day and just this year we had more wild pig encounters than ever before!  For you bird lovers, expect to see a variety of shore birds including sanderling, osprey, egret, and heron to name a few.
       In addition to spending some time with the horses, visit Wash Woods Life Saving Station or take a hike up Pennies Hill, which is the 2nd largest sand dune on the east coast.  At the top of Pennies Hill you’ll find great ocean to sound views.
